BUSY TRIP CONTINUES: The Seawolves conclude their 8-day, 8-match road trip this week with their final non-conference matches of the season at Dominican and San Francisco State, followed by the beginning of Great Northwest Athletic Conference play at Western Oregon and Saint Martin's.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Dominican (6-24 in 2009), of the Pacific West Conference, went winless at the Sonoma State tournament last week, including a 3-0 loss to San Francisco State on Saturday … California Collegiate Athletic Association foe San Francisco State (20-11, NCAA 1st Rd. in 2009) split its matches at the Sonoma State tourney, losing to Seattle Pacific and Grand Canyon and beating BYU-Hawaii and Dominican … Western Oregon (8-19, 5-11 GNAC in 2009) went 1-3 at its own tourney last week, sweeping Humboldt State and taking sets from 10th-ranked Metro State and 2nd-ranked CSU-San Bernardino …  Saint Martin's (3-23, 0-16 GNAC) saw its Div. II losing streak stretched to 34 matches with four defeats at the Hawaii-Hilo tournament last week; the Saints face NAIA Evergreen State on Tuesday and host Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday to start the GNAC campaign.

Last Meeting: UAA 3-0 (10/1/09 at UAA)
Streak: UAA 2. Notes: UAA swept last year's season series for the first time since 2004 … WOU had won 8 straight prior to last season … UAA has never earned a 3-0 win in Monmouth … series is tied 9-9 in GNAC meetings (since 2001) … series started in 1981 but did not resume until 1999.
Saint Martin's: UAA leads 16-4 (7-3 in Lacey)
Last Meeting: UAA 3-0 (10/31/09 at SMU)
Streak: UAA 4. Notes: UAA has swept the last four meetings … SMU's last win came Nov. 1, 2007 in Lacey … UAA leads 14-4 in GNAC meetings … series began in 1998.

WOU INVITE RECAP: No. 24 UAA earned an exhausting split at the Phoenix Inn GNAC Conference Challenge (hosted by Western Oregon), Sept. 3-4, playing four matches against three top-10 teams and three 5-setters … on the first day, UAA took 8th-ranked UC San Diego and 10th-ranked Metro State the distance before falling short … Saturday began with UAA's shortest match — a stunning 3-set win over 2nd-ranked Cal State-San Bernardino … Jr. OH McKenzie Moss, an all-tournament selection, ripped a match-high 16 kills and So. OH Marie Borowikow had 9 kills and 4 block assists as UAA avenged a loss to the Coyotes in the 2009 West Regional semifinals … Moss had 14 kills and several Seawolves had career-high numbers as UAA wrapped up with a 5-set victory over winless Humboldt State in the finale.

TEAM NOTES: The Seawolves take a 12-match Great Northwest Athletic Conference winning streak into Thursday's match at Western Oregon … UAA has won 17 of its last 20 matches dating back to Oct. 1, suffering all three losses at the hands of top-10-ranked foes … UAA's Aug. 28 victory over Drury stretched its home winning streak to nine matches … UAA's 18 team blocks Aug. 28 against Drury were the most for a Seawolf club since notching 19 in a 3-1 loss at Western Oregon on Oct. 27, 2005.

PLAYER NOTES: Jr. OH McKenzie Moss made the All-Tournament Team at the Western Oregon tourney last week, averaging 3.38 kills per set and leading the Seawolves in that category in all four matches … Jr. OH Jackie Matthisen, who ranked 2nd in the GNAC in kills per set (4.04) in 2009, has seen her offense drop to just 2.52 kps in 2010, but the East Anchorage High product has been better than ever on defense with a team-high 3.32 digs per set … Matthisen set a career- and UAA season-high with 23 digs in the victory over Humboldt State and notched a team-best 9 digs in the 3-set upset of No. 2 Cal State-San Bernardino … So. OH Marie Borowikow tied her career-high with 12 kills in the loss to No. 10 Metro State and is tied with Burton for the team lead with 28 total blocks … UAA is running a '6-2' offensive attack for the first time in several years and its rotating setters — Fr. Siobhan Johansen and So. Adriana Aukusitino — are combining for a solid 10.09 assists per set thus far … Sr. MB Cortney Lundberg, who averaged a lofty 2.29 blocks per set in UAA's opening wins over Drury, was hobbled with an ankle injury in practice Aug. 31 … last year's GNAC blocks leader and 2nd-team all-league pick is out for the Dominican and SFSU matches but could see action in the WOU and SMU matches … Lundberg is UAA's career record-holder in attack pct. (.301) and in the top 20 in blocks per set (5th, 1.07), total blocks (9th, 251), block assists (9th, 195), solo blocks (12th, 56), kills per set (16th, 2.42) and total kills (20th, 567).
