Hurley leads Vulcans past Nanooks

ANCHORAGE – Hawaii-Hilo center Hillary Hurley had 23 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots Saturday to lead her team to a 69-60 victory over Alaska Fairbanks in Game 3 of the AT&T Hoops Classic at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

The Vulcans (2-5) also got 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from guard Kirsten Shimizu as they avenged a pair of losses to the Nanooks in the Islands last month.

UAF (4-7) was led by a game-high 25 points from senior center Nicole Bozek.

Hurley, a star volleyball player for UHH, did not play in the first two contests against UAF, but she made her presence felt Saturday, shooting 7 of 10 from the field and 9 of 12 at the free-throw line. She also added four assists and helped the Vulcans outrebound the Nanooks 44-30.
