ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Anchorage volleyball program added three more talented recruits to its 2011 roster Tuesday as head coach Chris Green announced that Miranda Doing, Kimya Jafroudi and Lauren Slaymaker have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Seawolves..

Doing, a 5-11 middle blocker, played the last two seasons at Pasadena (Calif.) City College, where she helped her team to a 45-7 combined record, the 2009 South Coast Conference title, and back-to-back regional finals appearances. As a sophomore last season, she earned All-South Coast Conference Second Team honors after posting a team-best 0.79 blocks per set, plus 1.86 kills per set and a .261 attack percentage. As a prep, she was an All-CIF Division III selection at La Mirada High School, playing on two Suburban League championship squads.

“Miranda is a good leaper who we think has potential to get even better,” said Green, who has a 56-31 record in three seasons at UAA. “She will bring a big block to our team, and we are looking forward to further development offensively. Her California roots are evident with how she plays the game.”

Jafroudi, a 5-7 setter, comes to UAA after two seasons at junior-college powerhouse Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Calif., where she earned First Team All-Orange Empire Conference honors as a sophomore last year, averaging 10.0 assists and 2.2 digs per set. As a freshman, she led OCC to the California JC state title, earning the MVP award at the CCCAA Tournament.

“Kimya is a very good athlete who has great volleyball skills,” Green said. “We think she is also a great defensive player who will challenge in the setter position and/or the DS positions.”

Slaymaker, a 6-0 outside hitter/middle blocker, will return to her hometown after two years at Skagit Valley (Wash.) College in Mount Vernon, Wash. As a sophomore in 2009, she was named an NWAACC North Division First Team performer after ranking No. 2 in the 35-team league with 4.06 kills per set. She also led SVC as a freshman in 2008 with 2.62 kps and a .264 attack percentage. Slaymaker played her prep career at Grace Christian High School, where she helped the Grizzlies to third place at the 2007 ASAA State Championships.

“Lauren has the potential to help us as an outside hitter or as a middle blocker,” Green said. “She is another player who jumps well and has good ball control. We are excited to see another local player in our program.”

Doing, Jafroudi and Slaymaker will each have two years of eligibility at UAA.

The additions of Doing, Jafroudi and Slaymaker bring UAA's 2011 recruiting class to six players, joining fellow signees Ariel Austin (Jr., 5-11, RS, Woodland Park, Colo./Western Nebraska CC), Franziska Pirkl (Fr., 5-9, S, Munich, Germany), and Maureen Sabado (So., 5-10, MB, Kodiak/San Diego CC).

The Seawolves are an NCAA Div. II program that plays in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. UAA has posted a 41-17 record over the last two seasons with back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and one league title.
