PORTLAND, Ore. (Nov. 10) – Alaska Anchorage senior
Elaina Mack was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball Monday after her record-setting performance in a pair of season-opening victories.
A 5-8 guard, Mack averaged 29.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals, including a school record-tying 41-point outburst in Saturday's 100-57 victory, as the Seawolves swept opening contests from NAIA foe Northwest University.
The King Cove native shot .525 (21-40) from the field and .652 (15-23) on three-pointers, while posting consecutive career highs in rebounds.
On Friday, Mack started with 17 points (5-10 3FG), nine rebounds and five assists in a 107-82 win, helping tie a team program record with 16 treys. On Saturday, she tied the 30-year-old UAA school record and fourth-most points ever by a GNAC player with 41 points on 15-of-24 shooting (10-13 3FG). Her 10 treys broke the school record and tied for the second-most on the GNAC list, while her seven first-half treys tied another UAA record for most in any half.
She also rose to fifth place on UAA's career list with 176 three-pointers, just one shy of fourth place.
"Elaina embodies everything we want the program to stand for," said UAA head coach
Matt Thune. "Her work ethic, toughness and selflessness set the standard for our team, and she is dedicated to the betterment of UAA and our program every single day. This past week she shot the lights out, set career marks for rebounds and played with defensive intensity every minute she was on the court. I am proud of her and am excited to see continued growth from her and her teammates as we move deeper into the non-conference slate."
Mack and the Seawolves play their first NCAA Div. II opponents this week in Honolulu, facing Hawaii Pacific on Friday (7 pm AST) and Chaminade (5 pm AST) on Saturday. Find live links (video PPV) at GoSeawolves.com.
