INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 12) – With two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team finds itself in position for an NCAA Tournament berth, premiering Wednesday at No. 3 in the NCAA Div. II West Regional rankings.
With a 19-5 overall record, the Seawolves are one of five Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams among the top 10 in the West, along with No. 4 Alaska Fairbanks (20-4), No. 5 Simon Fraser (17-4), No. 6 Western Washington (18-4) and No. 7 Central Washington (16-5).
Pacific West Conference squads Point Loma (21-2) and Fresno Pacific (22-0) sit atop the regional top 10, while California Collegiate Athletic Association teams Cal Poly Pomona (18-4) and Cal State LA (17-6) are eighth and ninth.
The GNAC regular-season champion and the Pac West and CCAA Tournament champions receive automatic berths to the NCAA West Regional Championships, along with the next five highest ranked teams at the conclusion of the season. The final public regional poll will be released Nov. 19, prior to the final two regular-season matches, with the announcement of the national playoff field on Nov. 23.
The Seawolves (19-5, 10-4 GNAC) finish their regular-season road schedule this week with matches at Northwest Nazarene (6-15, 5-9) on Thursday (5 pm AST) and league-leading Central Washington (16-5, 12-2) on Saturday (6 pm). Find live links (video PPV) at GoSeawolves.com.
