Former Seawolf great Kyle Fossman spent one season on the staff of former mentor Rusty Osborne, in 2019-20.
In his lone campaign on the bench, the Haines native contributed to a Seawolf team that went 20-14 and missed an NCAA berth by one possession, reaching the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title game. He was instrumental in helping UAA finish top 10 nationally in both three-point percetage and treys made per game, as well as the development of then-sophomore guard Tobin Karlberg, who raised his scoring average by 10 points per game and earned honorable mention All-GNAC accolades.
A four-year letterwinner from 2010-14, Fossman scored 1,237 points in green & gold, finishing his career as UAA’s record holder in virtually every three-point shooting category. He was a first-team all-conference performer as a junior and honorable mention as a senior, helping the Seawolves to winning records in each of his seasons, including a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
A three-time Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic performer, Fossman graduated with his bachelor’s in accounting in 2014, before playing one season of professional basketball with the Fraport Skyliners in Germany.
From 2015-19, Fossman was active in the Haines sports community as both a basketball coach and official, along with founding the AKtive summer skills youth basketball camp.
A former 3A State Player of the Year, he was inducted into the Alaska School Activities Association’s Hall of Fame in 2018.
