ANCHORAGE (Dec. 12) - Stephanie Smith and Tirzah Church combined for 31 points to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage to a come-from-behind 65-61 win over Western Oregon in a Pacific West Conference contest at the UAA Sports Center Sunday.
UAA improves to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in PWC play. WOU drops to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in PWC action.
Down 46-34 with 17:16 to go, the Seawolves went on a 16-2 run to take a 50-48 lead at the 10:39 mark. From there it was nip-and-tuck down the stretch, with UAA finally taking a lead they would never relinquish on a crucial Church three-pointer to make it 62-59 with 3:27 to go.
The Seawolves' Julie Chambers, who finished with 10 points, made three of four free throws in the waning seconds of the game to ice the victory - UAA's fourth in a row.
Heather Laats, Clair Cox and Mandi Dinan each had 14 points to lead WOU. WOU outrebounded the Seawolves, 46-31, led by Laats' game-high 10 boards. Tiffany Massey had eight rebounds and Smith seven to lead UAA.
