ANCHORAGE (Dec. 18) - The Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team came back from a halftime deficit for the third straight time, defeating Alaska Fairbanks 75-67 Saturday night at the Sports Center. With the win, UAA (9-2, 5-0 Pac West) sweeps the regular-season series from UAF (5-5, 2-3).
Four Seawolves scored in double figures and two others had nine points to pace UAA's balanced attack. Stephanie Smith and Catherine Hale had 12 points apiece for the Seawolves, while UAF's Denise Perez took game-high honors with 17.
UAA started slow, falling behind 8-0 and 20-8, but the Seawolves finally gained their composure and closed to within 36-35 at the half. Tirzah Church, who finished with 11 points, scored seven in a row to start the second half, giving the Seawolves a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Tiffany Massey narrowly missed her third double-double of the season, posting 11 points and nine rebounds.
The Seawolves are off until the New Year, retaking the court Jan. 6 for a 7:05 p.m. home game against Central Washington.
