ANCHORAGE (Oct. 20) - Led by the superb hitting of Vanessa Tsukano and Cami Garnder, the University of Alaska Anchorage volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Montana State-Billings 14-16, 9-15, 15-10, 15-12, 15-5 at the Sports Center tonight.
Tsukano had 23 kills in 46 attempts and Gardner had 20 kills, 14 digs, four blocks and a career-high six aces for UAA (11-16, 7-4 Pacific West). Angie Hopes led the Yellowjackets (8-16, 4-5) with 21 kills.
For Gardner, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif., it marked the second time in as many matches that she's gone over the 20-kill mark. Junior setter Janelle Morrisette also had an outstanding match, with her 67 assists being the third-best effort of her career.
Seawolf freshman Starr Burgan, subbing for injured starter Brianne Halling, tallied career-highs of seven kills, six blocks and five digs.
UAA is now 29-4 all-time against MSUB and 14-1 at the Sports Center.
The same two teams meet again Saturday at the Sports Center at 7:05 p.m. ADT.
