HONOLULU, Hawaii (Oct. 26) - Senior Vanessa Tsukano had 14 kills, but it wasn't enough as the University of Alaska Anchorage volleyball team fell 15-12, 15-7, 15-10 to No. 1 Hawaii Pacific at St. Andrew's Priory tonight.
A crowd of 305 watched Tsukano post an impressive .522 hitting percentage (14 kills, 2 errors, 23 attempts) for UAA (12-17, 8-5 Pacific West). But Flavio Gabinio was even better for HPU (18-0, 11-0 PWC), hitting .586 (18-1-29).
The Seawolves played tough in the first set, tying the score 9-9 before the Sea Warriors pulled ahead. Cami Gardner and Heather Riter each posted nine kills for UAA, while freshman Kasey Kuelper anchored the defense with 10 digs.
UAA has never beaten HPU in six tries.
The Seawolves finish their island adventure Saturday at 9:30 p.m. ADT against No. 7 Brigham Young-Hawaii in Laie.
