Seawolves suffer rare home loss to Nanooks

ANCHORAGE - Denise Perez had 14 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists to lead the University of Alaska Fairbanks over Alaska Anchorage 79-62 in a Pacific West Conference women's basketball game at the Sports Center tonight.


A crowd of 676 watched the Nanooks (6-1, 2-1 PWC) win in Anchorage for the first time since Jan. 11, 1983. The Seawolves (2-6, 0-3) were led by junior center Bell Jordan's game-high 22 points.


UAA's six-game losing streak is its longest since dropping the final seven games of the 1996-97 campaign.


Amy Woodruff led the way for UAF with 20 points, as the Nanooks turned a 16-11 first half deficit into a 39-24 advantage at the break with a huge run. The Seawolves cut the margin to as low as 57-46 with 8:02 left in the game, but they could get no closer.


Jordan also had a career-high nine rebounds to go with her 8-for-13 shooting, while senior center Dana Bottoms had 15 points, nine rebounds and tied her career-high with four blocks.


UAA will try to reverse the results next Saturday, Dec. 16 when its travels to Fairbanks for the rematch. That game tips and 7 p.m. and can be heard in Anchorage on AM-550 or over the Internet on this site.
