SEATTLE - Senior Tiffany Massey scored a career-high 21 points to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team to a 63-60 victory over Seattle University at the Archbishop Connolly Center tonight.
The win was the first on the road this season for UAA (4-11, 2-8 Pac West). Seattle University (3-12, 1-9) was led by 14 points apiece from Anna Kloeck and Courtney Tinsley.
Massey, a guard/forward from Payson, Utah, shot 10-of-15 from the field, grabbed six rebounds, dished five assists and committed only one turnover. She played the entire 40 minutes for the third game in a row and the fifth time in six games.
The Seawolves held a 27-25 advantage at halftime, but the Redhawks rallied to take a 38-35 advantage with 14 minutes left. The lead then changed hands several times until UAA took the lead for good on Massey's layup with 7:24 left that made it 49-48. The Seawolves went up 62-54 with 2:00 remaining before SU cut into the lead and managed a final shot at a tie. However, Jessie DeLaunay's shot came up short and Jennifer Gardeline corralled the rebound to secure the win.
Gardeline finished with a career-best eight rebounds.
The game completed a four-game road swing for the Seawolves, who now come home for four games, beginning Jan. 25 against Western New Mexico (7:05 p.m., UAA Sports Center).
