Seawolves blast 'Jackets for third straight win

ANCHORAGE - Tiffany Massey and Dana Bottoms combined for 37 points and 19 rebounds to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team to its third straight victory, 69-50 over Montana State-Billings at the Sports Center.


Massey shot 6-for-6 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line to score 17 points for UAA (6-11, 4-8 Pac West Conference), while Bottoms scored a game-high 20 on 9-of-15 shooting. Betsy Morrison led MSUB (10-7, 6-6) with 12 points.


After trailing 11-10 at the 12-minute mark, the Seawolves went on a 17-0 run to blow the game open. Bottoms scored 14 of her points in the first half, including eight during the decisive spurt. Senior forward Jennifer Gardeline contributed all of her career-high seven assists in the first stanza.


In winning its season-high third straight game, the Seawolves held MSUB to 24.1 percent (7-29) shooting in the first half and forced 12 Yellowjacket turnovers with just two assists.


Massey also had 13 rebounds six assists as she posted her team-best sixth double-double of the season. She now has 14 double-doubles in 46 career games.


Senior forward Kellie Larrabee had a solid game also with seven points, five rebounds, three blocks and three steals. She also had five assists as she moved into sixth place on UAA's career assists list with 240.


UAA goes for four wins in a row when it hosts Western Oregon on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. AST at the Sports Center.
