Seawolf road rally stuns Wildcats

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Oct. 6) - Brianne Halling delivered 14 kills and a career-high 11 blocks to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage volleyball team to an improbable 12-30, 27-30, 30-27, 30-27, 15-10 victory over Central Washington at Nicholson Pavilion tonight.


The Seawolves (10-7, 3-4 GNAC) posted their first comeback from a 2-0 deficit this season and won for the second night in a row on a three-match road trip. The Wildcats (9-8, 5-4) were led by Katie Orgill's match-high 21 kills and 15 digs.


UAA outside hitter Marise Knock came back after missing the last two matches with a lower-back contusion, and delivered 12 kills, 10 digs and four blocks. It was her team-leading seventh double-double of the season.


Halling, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's leading blocker (1.48 per game), equaled her career-high with nine block assists for the second straight evening.


Sophomore Starr Burgan led UAA with 11 digs, and freshman Carolyn DeKay delivered another solid night with 12 kills. Setter Janelle Veith had 56 assists as the Seawolves improved their hitting performance in every game. UAA hit -.162 in dropping the first game, but delivered a .389 showing in the fifth to seal the comeback.


UAA will go for a perfect 3-0 road trip Monday night when they face Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho, at 5 p.m. ADT.
