Vikings end spikers' streak at 9

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Nov. 2) - Four Vikings tallied double-digit kills and digs as 18th-ranked Western Washington ended the UAA volleyball team's 9-match winning streak, 30-23, 30-21, 31-29 at Sam Carver Gym tonight.


Brianne Halling and Marise Knock led UAA (17-8, 10-5 GNAC) with nine kills each, but WWU (21-4, 16-0) got 11 digs and 11 kills from Shannon Rowland to pace a balanced Viking attack.


Knock had a match-high 16 digs, and Halling was in on four of UAA's seven blocks, but the Seawolves couldn't overcome a .150 hitting percentage (35 kills-17 errors-120 attempts).


Meanwhile, WWU's Meghan Evoy led her squad with 12 kills as the nationally ranked Vikings posted a .194 percentage (52-25-139) and recorded 48 assists to UAA's 33. WWU is ranked No. 2 in the Pacific Region and has already clinched the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title.


The Seawolves, ranked 8th in the Pacific Region poll, face a must-win match Saturday night at No. 5 Seattle Pacific (6 p.m. AST).
