Seawolf spikers fall to Falcons in 4

SEATTLE (Nov. 3) - Senior outside hitter Marise Knock notched a double-double, but it wasn't enough to save the Seawolf volleyball team from its second straight road loss as it fell 23-30, 30-28, 30-19, 33-31 to host Seattle Pacific on Saturday night.

Cathleen Price had 23 kills and 19 digs for Seattle Pacific (19-6, 12-5 GNAC), while freshman outside hitter Carolyn DeKay led UAA (17-9, 10-6) with 15 kills.

The loss may end UAA's hopes of reaching the NCAA Tournament as the Seawolves entered the weekend ranked No. 8 in the Pacific Region and needing to win at least once to keep its chances alive.

Knock had 10 kills and 19 digs, while junior middle blocker Brianne Halling finished with 14 kills and four blocks. But it wasn't enough against a strong Falcon squad that got double-doubles from three players - Price, Leah Wiiest (15 kills-22 digs) and Carri Colvin (13 kills-16 digs).

The Seawolves played well in the first game, winning with an attack percentage of .255 (20-8-47) while holding SPU to .111. But SPU made the big plays late in the second and fourth games to eke out the victory.

Katy Higgins had 62 assists for SPU, while UAA setter Janelle Veith managed 44 assists to go with five kills and 10 digs.

UAA sophomore Kirsten Hunley recorded a career-high 14 digs.

The Seawolves return home for their final weekend series, facing Central Washington on Friday and Saint Martin's on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7:05 p.m. at the Sports Center and Saturday's match is Senior Night.
