ANCHORAGE (Nov. 10) - Middle blocker Brianne Halling and outside hitter Marise Knock each delivered career-best offensive performances to lift the UAA volleyball team to a season-ending 30-18, 30-23, 25-30, 30-17 victory over Saint Martin's at the Sports Center tonight.
Starr Burgan recorded a career-high 15 digs for UAA (18-10, 11-7 GNAC), while senior setter Janelle Veith came through with 54 assists in her final match. Alicia Denny paced Saint Martin's (8-22, 5-13) with 12 kills and 12 digs.
Halling registered 24 kills, surpassing her previous high of 17, while Knock's .538 hitting percentage (14 kills-0 errors-26 attempts) was her best ever. Knock also came up with 15 digs to post her team-leading 10th double-double of the season.
Freshman outside hitter Carolyn DeKay also reached double-digits with 11 kills, while sophomore Kasey Kuelper covered the back row with a match-high 16 digs.
UAA dominated statistically, posting advantages of 75-50 in kills, 79-69 in digs and 10-5 blocks.
Burgan had a solid all-around match with nine kills and six blocks to go along with her 15 digs. Senior Tiffany Massey had five kills, six assists, 11 digs and three block assists in her final appearance.
UAA's wins total of 18 was the most for the team in coach Kim Lauwers' four seasons.
