ANCHORAGE (Dec. 20) - Despite a huge double-double by Bell Jordan, the Seawolves were unable to stop Montana State-Billings dropping an 82-54 non-conference game tonight at the Sports Center.
Jordan's 23 points and 13 rebounds topped all players in both categories. She led Alaska Anchorage (3-6, 0-2 GNAC) with her fourth double-double of the season. Freshman Jennifer Stoddard grabbed 12 rebounds matching her career high for the third time this season. The 7-1 Yellowjackets, whose only loss came from Division I Montana, received 18-point contributions from both Natalie Visger and Kami Malnaa.
Eight minutes into the game, the Seawolves led a tight 13-12 contest. But a 20-3 run by Montana State-Billings in the middle of the first half gave the Yellowjackets a lead they never fumbled. They stretched the margin to 44-25 by the half. The Seawolves came no closer than 15 in the second half. Laura Taborsky made two free throws to make it 57-42 with 11:46 to play. Billings shot 51.5 percent (17-33) in the final 20 minutes.
The Yellowjackets hit 47.3 percent (35-74) for the night, while UAA managed a 30.9 (21-68) percent night. MSUB also won the battle of the boards, 49-42.
Up next for the Seawolves is the Lynn Shootout, Dec. 29-30, in Boca Raton, Fla. UAA is scheduled to take on nationally ranked Bentley (Mass.) in the first round before meeting either host Lynn or Mercy (N.Y.) College in the third-place or championship game.
