MONMOUTH, Ore. (Dec. 6) - The UAA women's basketball team got off to a rough start in conference play Thursday, dropping a 113-51 decision to host Western Oregon at the New P.E. Building.
Freshman Jen Stoddard had 15 points and 10 rebounds for UAA (3-4, 0-1), while six players scored in double figures for WOU (4-2, 1-0 GNAC), led by forward Heather Laats' 22.
The Seawolves were hurt by foul trouble, especially to leading scorer and rebounder Bell Jordan, who picked up two fouls in the first 2 minutes, 45 seconds. Jordan sat for the rest of the half and watched the Wolves jump on the Seawolves for a 60-18 halftime advantage.
UAA finished with 13 assists and 34 turnovers, while WOU nearly reversed those numbers with 36 and 12. WOU point guard Becky Gregory finished with 13 assists.
Stoddard shot 7 of 16 from the field, and grabbed five offensive rebounds while playing a team-high 36 minutes.
UAA looks to turn things around Saturday when they travel to Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe Humboldt (Calif.) State for a 7 p.m. AST tip-off.
