ARCATA, Calif. (Dec. 8) - Freshman Jen Stoddard posted her second straight double-double, but the UAA women's basketball team couldn't pull out their first conference victory, losing 66-55 to Humboldt State at the East Gym tonight.
The Seawolves (3-5, 0-2 GNAC) were led by guard Tanya Nizich's 13 points, while the Lumberjacks (2-4, 1-1) got 11 points from forward Peni Vaefaga.
Stoddard, a forward from Olympia, Wash., had 11 points and 12 rebounds, helping UAA outwork HSU 47-37 on the boards. However, the Seawolves were hurt by another poor shooting night, hitting only 29 percent (19-65) compared to HSU's 41.1 percent (23-56).
Nizich, a sophomore from Juneau, had the best shooting performance for UAA, going 5 for 10, including 3 of 7 on three-pointers.
Humboldt State used 15 players in the game, getting scoring from 13 of them. Katie Mosebar came of the bench for HSU with 9 points and a team-high 5 rebounds.
The Seawolves are off for semester exams before resuming play Dec. 20 with a non-conference home game against Montana State-Billings (7:05 p.m., UAA Sports Center).
