Bottoms, Seawolves swat away Redhawks, 67-46

ANCHORAGE - Senior center Dana Bottoms tied the school record for blocked shots with seven and posted her second straight double-double to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team to a 67-46 rout of Seattle University at the Sports Center Saturday night.

Bottoms led the Seawolves (11-13, 9-10 Pac West) with 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds as UAA won for the eighth time in 10 games. Seattle U. (4-20, 2-17) was led by eight points and 10 rebounds from center Rachel Asante.

Bottoms began her night quickly, scoring four points and swatting two shots in the first two minutes as UAA built an early lead it would never relinquish. Her seven blocks tied the school record set by Sonya Welch on Jan. 7, 1989 against Denver.

UAA led 46-33 at halftime, the most points the Seawolves have recorded in a half this year. The second half began with UAA holding the Redhawks scoreless until the 11:50 mark, when Marissa Young hit a jumper in the lane. SU managed only six field goals the entire second half.

Reserve center Bell Jordan came off the bench to record 12 points and a career-high-tying nine rebounds in just 12 minutes. But it was the Seawolves' long-range marksmanship that caught the crowd's attention as they drained a season-high seven threes in only 14 tries. Five different players hit three-pointers for UAA.

Senior all-conference forward Tiffany Massey had another strong effort with 10 rebounds, six points and two blocks, while point guard Megan Buchmann finished with six points and six assists.

UAA's six seniors close out their home career Saturday when the Seawolves face Northwest Nazarene at 6 p.m. at the Sports Center.
