ANCHORAGE - Senior guard Regina Wilhelm, one of six seniors playing her final home game, scored a career-high 17 points to power the University of Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team to a 84-71 victory over Northwest Nazarene at the Sports Center on Saturday.
Tiffany Massey and Dana Bottoms tallied 15 points apiece for UAA (12-13, 10-10 Pac West), which won for the ninth time in 11 games. Center Kasha Lawrence led NNU (15-9, 13-7) with 21 points and nine rebounds.
The Seawolves shot a season-high 55.9 percent (33-for-59) and equaled their best three-point (7 made) and steals (13) performances of the year. The 84 points was also a team season-high.
Bottoms, a senior center, had five blocked shots to break the school record for blocks in a season. Her 62 this year tops Tammy Middaugh's 1981-82 total of 58. Fellow senior Kellie Larrabee also delivered a solid all-around performance with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks. Meanwhile, Massey contributed eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals.
After building a 40-37 halftime advantage, UAA slowly pulled away in the second half, taking a 64-47 lead on Wilhelm's breakaway layin with 9:38 remaining. NNU cut the lead to 10 points twice but could get no closer.
UAA's season concludes next week with road game at Montana State-Billings (Mar. 1) and Western New Mexico (Mar. 3).
