ANCHORAGE (Sept. 28) - Cathleen Price and Leah Wiiest combined for 43 kills to lead Seattle Pacific to a 30-24, 28-30, 30-28, 33-31 victory over the UAA volleyball team at the Sports Center Friday night.
Brianne Halling led the Seawolves (8-6, 1-3 GNAC) with 15 kills and six blocks, but SPU (11-3, 4-2) got a great effort from setter Katy Higgins, who had 61 assists.
UAA's Starr Burgan set a career high with 11 kills, while outside hitter Marise Knock delivered another double-double with 13 kills and 16 digs. Freshman Carolyn DeKay was the fourth Seawolf in double-digit kills with 12.
The Seawolves held leads late in Games 3 and 4, but the Falcons rallied each time. UAA had a 28-26 advantage in the third game before the Falcons served the final four points. In the final game, the Seawolves held leads of 23-19 and 26-24 before the Falcons came back. SPU took a 29-26 advantage before UAA fought off three match points and took a 30-29 lead. But SPU, the favorite in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference preseason coaches' poll, hung tough and rebounded for the win.
UAA returns to the court Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. when they face league-leading Western Washington at the Sports Center.
