No. 6 Falcons too much for UAA

ANCHORAGE (Jan. 10) - UAA center Bell Jordan scored a team-high 22 points, but it was her opposite number, Seattle Pacific center Kelley Berglund, who propelled her team to an 87-55 victory with a jaw-dropping 33-point performance tonight.

UAA (4-10, 0-5 GNAC) also got a career-high 17 points from freshman Jen Stoddard, but it was Berglund who impressed the Sports Center crowd with 14-for-14 shooting and a game-best 10 rebounds to improve the sixth-ranked Falcons to 12-2 overall, 4-1 GNAC.

The Seawolves stayed close early, cutting SPU's lead to 27-19 on Stephanie Johnson's jumper with 6:46 showing in the first half. But the Falcons kept the pressure on UAA, forcing 14 Seawolf turnovers in the opening period to take a 41-27 advantage into the locker room.

The Falcons quickly extended their lead to 54-33 on a three-point play by Berglund with 5 minutes gone in the second, then pushed it to 69-39 with 9:58 to play.

Jordan had an excellent night on the offensive end herself, shooting 9-for-13, grabbing a team-high 7 rebounds and tying her career-high with 3 assists. Stoddard, a 5-11 forward shot 7-for-10 from the field, but had only 3 rebounds, well under her league-leading average of 9.1 rpg.

UAA faces another difficult Great Northwest Athletic Conference test Saturday when it hosts Central Washington at the Sports Center. Tip-off is 7:05 p.m.
