ANCHORAGE (Nov. 19) - Kamie Jo Massey led four Seawolves in double figures with 19 points as the UAA women's basketball team got in the win column with a 75-46 victory over Warner Pacific at the Sports Center tonight.
Massey also had 11 rebounds for UAA (1-1), while Tanya Nizich and Mindy Mendenhall added 13 points apiece. Angie Sun led Warner Pacific (1-3) with 15 points.
After struggling in a 53-51 loss to the Knights on Monday, UAA jumped on top early, 6-0, and never trailed in Tuesday's game. UAA built a 42-16 halftime lead and extended it to as many as 30 in the second half.
The Seawolves dished 20 assists and committed 17 turnovers, while forcing the Knights, of Portland, Ore., into just 22.2 percent field goal shooting.
Massey was all over the stat sheet with four assists, three blocks and four steals to go with 7-for-10 field goal shooting and 5-for-5 free throw shooting. The Seawolves hit an impressive 22 of 24 free throws as a team.
Junior center Sarah Kemper was in double figures for the second straight game with 12 points.
The Seawolves are off until Tuesday, Nov. 26, when they open the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout against Division I Nevada. That game starts at 6 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
