ANCHORAGE (Nov. 29) - Thomas Mobley and Troy Wheless scored 17 points each to lead College of Charleston to a 66-58 upset of Oklahoma State in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout semifinals Friday night.
The Cougars (4-0) are in the Shootout final for the second time in two appearances in Anchorage. C of C lost to Kentucky in the 1996 championship game.
OSU (2-1) got 23 points from guard Tony Allen, but only one other Cowboy - Melvin Sanders (11) - scored in double-figures.
College of Charleston took control late in the first half after the teams switched leads for much of the opening 20 minutes. The Cougars built their lead as high as 55-41 before OSU scored eight straight, but Mobley answered with a three-pointer from the corner to stem the run.
The Cougars, who will face the winner of No. 9 Michigan State and Villanova in Saturday's 8:30 p.m. championship game (ESPN2), were able to overcome a 35-22 rebounding disadvantage. C of C had 13 steals and forced 24 OSU turnovers. The Cougars also hit nine three-pointers to only one for the Cowboys.
OSU drops into the third-place game against the MSU-Villanova loser at 5 p.m.
