Dynamic duo sparks UAA men, 71-56

NAMPA, Idaho (Dec. 5) - Peter Bullock and Adam Fitt-Chappell combined for 50 points to help the UAA men's basketball team to a 71-56 win over host Northwest Nazarene in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both teams Thursday.


Fitt-Chappell, a freshman from Eagle River, scored 24 on 7-of-8 three-point shooting, while Bullock poured in 26 on 11-of-15 shooting to go with team-highs of nine rebounds, four steals and two blocks.


Center Cam Wattling led Northwest Nazarene with 18 points and 13 rebounds, but the rest of his teammates shot just 11 of 38 from the field.


The Seawolves (3-3, 1-0 GNAC) hit 12 of 23 three-pointers as a team, while holding the Crusaders (1-4, 0-1) to just 2 of 10 from long range. UAA also had a sterling 20-to-13 assist-to-turnover ratio, while NNU had only 10 assists and 21 turnovers.


UAA took control midway through the first half with a 15-2 run that made it 28-15 with 4:05 to play. The Seawolves went up by as much as 44-28 five minutes into the second half before the Crusaders cut the advantage to 49-43 on Wattling's bucket with 9:56 remaining. But Fitt-Chappell responded with a three-pointer that sparked a 7-0 Seawolf run and put the game out of reach.


Point guard Scott Stevens had his strongest game in a Seawolf uniform with five points and a game-best seven assists.


UAA has now won five in a row against the Crusaders.
