Wildcats scratch Seawolves, 74-54

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Feb. 14) - The Seawolves shot and rebounded better, but were hurt by too many turnovers in a 74-54 women's basketball loss at league-leading Central Washington tonight.

UAA (5-18, 1-13 GNAC) was led by 14 points and a career-high 9 rebounds from junior guard Laura Taborsky, but the Seawolves committed 31 turnovers to CWU's 11. The Wildcats (18-5, 12-2) got a game-high 19 points from guard Angela Jensen and 12 from center Rose Shaw.

The Seawolves hung tight early, trailing 13-12 seven minutes into the contest. But UAA star center Bell Jordan had to leave with two quick fouls, and the Wildcats used the opportunity to go on a 15-2 run. CWU led 41-22 at halftime as the Seawolves committed 19 of their 31 miscues in the opening stanza.

Jordan was held scoreless in the first half but managed to finish with 13 points and 8 rebounds.

While UAA was sloppy with the ball, the Wildcats were exactly the opposite, committing only eight turnovers and grabbing 15 steals.

Freshman forward Jen Stoddard had 9 points and 7 rebounds for UAA.

The Seawolves finish their four-game road trip Saturday at 6 p.m. AST when they face No. 15 Seattle Pacific at Royal Brougham Pavilion.
