ANCHORAGE (Feb. 23) - Visiting Alaska Fairbanks got 15 points and 10 rebounds from center Heidi Arts to help complete a huge second-half comeback and knock off the UAA women's basketball team 67-62 at the Sports Center tonight.
Senior center Bell Jordan led UAA (5-20, 1-15 GNAC) with 15 points and 10 rebounds, but the all-star candidate hit just 5 of 17 shots. UAF (13-12, 7-9) also got 10 points and 12 rebounds off the bench from Jenny Jemmett.
The Nanooks posted their fourth straight win in the series by erasing a 14-point UAA lead in the final 18 minutes. After Jordan made a layup to make it 42-28, the Seawolves went 8 minutes, 50 seconds without a field goal until freshman Amber Nasby hit a baseline jumper with 9:16 left. By then, the Nanooks had forged a 54-51 lead.
But the Seawolves didn't fold, fighting back for a 60-59 lead on Tanya Nizich's three-pointer with 4:48 to go.
Then two Arts free throws and a layup by Jemmett started a 8-0 game-deciding for the Nanooks as UAA could only manage a Diana Gundersen layup in the last four minutes.
Jordan's double-double was her 13th of the season, the most in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
The Seawolves finish their season next week at home when they host league-leading Western Washington (Thursday, Feb. 28) and Seattle University (Saturday, March 2). Both games tip off at 7:05 p.m.
