Vikings sweep Seawolves

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Sept. 28) - The UAA volleyball team played a spirited first game but wound up losing its fifth straight road match, 34-32, 30-17, 30-24 at the hands of 10th-ranked Western Washington at Carver Gym tonight.


The Seawolves (6-8, 2-4 GNAC) were led by O'Lita McWilliams' nine kills and 20 digs, while Meghan Evoy paced the host Vikings (10-2, 5-0) with 16 kills and a .519 hitting percentage.


UAA trailed 25-21 in Game 1, before rallying to tie the score at 27. The Seawolves then fought off three game points before kills by Brianna Murray and Evoy sealed the 1-0 lead for WWU.


The Seawolves fell behind 14-5 in the second game and never got within four points during the second half of the third game, falling to 0-5 on the road and 0-8 away from the Sports Center.


UAA outblocked the Vikings 7-4, but lost the battle in kills (55-37) and hitting percentage (.220 to .145).


UAA returns home to face Central Washington and Saint Martin's at the Sports Center, Oct. 4 and 5.
