Drake drains 31 in Seawolf romp

ANCHORAGE (Jan. 11) - Mark Drake tied his own school record with nine three-pointers as the UAA men's basketball team cruised to its most lopsided victory of season, 102-63 over Saint Martin's at the Sports Center tonight.

Drake scored 31 and Peter Bullock had 17 points and five steals for UAA (6-7, 3-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference), which posted a season-high 28 assists. The Saints (0-14, 0-4) were led by Zane Satovich's 19 points.

The Seawolves started quickly, using Bullock's transition dunk on a pass from Cody Gallatin to go up 14-2. Saint Martin's battled back to within 14-12 on Joe Chirhart's three-pointer with 12:17 remaining in the opening half, but that was as close as the visitors from Lacey, Wash., would get.

Drake entered the game midway through the first half and promptly hit a running bank shot to put UAA up 22-15. He followed that with four straight threes within four minutes, propelling the Seawolves to a 48-28 halftime advantage.

All doubt was erased with an 11-0 run to begin the second half, capped by a pair of Blaine Durrant three-pointers.

Durrant finished with a career-best 16 points (5-8 FG, 3-4 3FG, 3-3 FT), while fellow junior Bob Austin scored 12 and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

The point guard combination of Bryson Vaughan and Cody Gallatin accounted for 15 assists, while Vaughan also grabbed three steals.

UAA takes to the road next week for key conference games at Seattle Pacific (Thur., Jan. 16) and Western Washington (Sat., Jan. 18). Both games begin at 6 p.m. AST and can be heard in Anchorage on AM-550 KTZN "The Zone" or over the internet at this site (RealPlayer).
