Women drop OT decision at HSU

ARCATA, Calif. (Jan. 18) - Kamie Jo Massey's 19-point, 16-rebound effort wasn't quite enough to lift the UAA women's basketball team to a road victory Saturday night as the Seawolves lost 79-74 to Humboldt State in overtime.

Massey also had eight assists for UAA (7-5, 2-2 Great Northwest Athletic Conference), which got 18 points and 10 rebounds from center Mary Aschoff. HSU (7-8, 2-4) was led by center Nicole Lynch's 21 points and 10 rebounds.

UAA led 34-30 at halftime but fell behind by as many as 15 points in the second half. A furious rally allowed UAA to tie it at 66 on Massey's free throws with under a minute remaining. However, Massey's last-ditch field goal attempt in regulation bounced off, and the Lumberjacks controlled the extra session.

Seawolf junior guard Tanya Nizich was in double figures for the second straight game with 15 points.

The Seawolves lost for their second straight game, despite winning the rebounding battle 52-41 and hitting seven three-pointers to HSU's zero. The Lumberjacks rode a huge advantage in free throws (25 of 33 to UAA's 13 of 24) to capture their second straight win.

UAA returns home to the Sports Center to host Northwest Nazarene for a 7:05 p.m. tip on Thursday, Jan. 23.
