SEATTLE (Jan. 30) - Kamie Jo Massey and Mary Aschoff scored 11 points apiece, but the Seawolf women's basketball team couldn't stay with the nation's second-ranked team Thursday, losing 90-57 to Seattle Pacific at Brougham Pavilion.
UAA (8-7, 3-4 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) shot 34 percent, while the Falcons shot 52.9 percent and won the rebounding battle 40-32. Center Kelley Berglund led SPU (17-0, 8-0) with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while guard Kerie Hughes had game-highs of 15 points and nine assists.
Massey, the GNAC's leading rebounder, had a team-high seven boards for the Seawolves as well as five assists and four steals. Aschoff was the only UAA player to shoot better than 50 percent from the field (4-for-7).
UAA trailed just 21-19 when Tanya Nizich knocked down a three-pointer with 11:12 left in the opening half, but the Falcons closed the period on a 22-5 run and never looked back.
The Seawolves will try to avoid a third straight loss when they visit Central Washington for a Saturday game in Ellensburg, Wash.
