ANCHORAGE (Jan. 4) - Kamie Jo Massey came just shy of a triple-double for the second straight night to lead the UAA women's basketball team to an 80-55 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State at the Sports Center on Saturday.
Massey had 19 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists, while fellow junior Mindy Mendenhall scored a game-high 22 points for the Seawolves (6-3). It was UAA's third straight victory and its fifth in six games.
Center Joy Herzog led OPSU (1-8) with 20 points.
UAA controlled the action throughout the first half, and held a 44-34 lead two minutes into the second period before the Aggies charged back to cut the lead to 48-47 on Sammy Toews' three-pointer with 13:11 to play.
But UAA answered on the next possession with an 18-foot jumper by Amber Nasby, and Tanya Nizich knocked down two of her three three-pointers to spark a 24-2 run as the Seawolves held OPSU without a field goal for the next 10 minutes.
Massey - who had 23 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in Friday's victory over OPSU - also grabbed five steals and blocked three shots in Saturday's win. She now has five double-doubles this season.
Meanwhile, Mendenhall recorded a career-high for the second straight night with her 22 points, shooting 9 of 16 from the field and 4 of 6 from the free throw line. She also had seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
Point guard Jessica Reilly scored a career-best nine points (3-6 FG, 3-3 FT), while Nizich scored nine and moved into sixth place on UAA's career three-pointers list with 75.
UAA enjoyed another huge rebounding advantage, 46-29.
The Seawolves are off until next Saturday, Jan. 11, when they host arch-rival Alaska Fairbanks at the Sports Center. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
