Wildcats scratch Seawolves

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Feb. 1) - The UAA women's basketball team trailed by only three points at halftime but succumbed to a second-half blitz by host Central Washington, falling 78-40 at Nicholson Pavilion tonight.


The Seawolves (8-8, 3-5 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) suffered their third straight loss despite team-highs of 12 points and eight rebounds from Kamie Jo Massey. Central Washington (10-6, 5-4) got a game-high 18 points from Lindsay Weiss and 14 points and 10 rebounds from Alayna Vincent.


Massey scored 10 of her points in the first half as UAA hung tough with the Wildcats and trailed 24-21 at the break. CWU led 32-27 with 16:20 remaining and went on a 25-7 spurt over the next nine minutes to blow the game open.


Tanya Nizich and Mary Aschoff scored seven points apiece for the Seawolves, while Kelsey Larsen pulled down seven rebounds.


The Seawolves will try to bounce back next Saturday, Feb. 8, when they travel north to take on arch-rival Alaska Fairbanks at the Patty Center. Tip-off is 3 p.m.
