ANCHORAGE (Dec. 19) - The Seawolf women's basketball team once again got big performances from Kamie Jo Massey and Amber Nasby, but Montana State-Billings' strong inside game boosted the Yellowjackets to a 62-54 win over UAA in the Glacier Classic tonight at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
UAA (5-3) was held scoreless for the last 6:50 as MSUB (4-5) ended the game on a 16-2 run.
Nasby had 16 points and eight rebounds, while Massey contributed 15 points (3-5 3FG), eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals. Mindy Mendenhall came off the bench for the first time this season and chipped in eight points and five rebounds, but UAA had trouble rebounding against the taller Yellowjackets, losing that category 37-32.
Billings got 21 points (8-12 FG, 5-5 FT) from forward Tanya Peterson, who was named Player of the Game, and center Robyn Milne collected 14 points (7-11 FG), 11 rebounds and four blocks.
UAA took its largest lead of the second half when Massey sparked a 10-0 run with assists on four straight baskets. The final bucket, a Mendenhall layup, gave the Seawolves a 52-46 lead with 9:12 to play.
Billings answered with an 8-0 run of its own before Nasby forced the last of the game's 11 ties on a jumper with 6:51 remaining. The Seawolves went scoreless from that point.
In the early game, Alaska Fairbanks got 25 points and 12 rebounds from Player of the Game Adrienne Taalak to pull out a 78-65 comeback win over Western New Mexico. Center Ivanna Stojkovic led WNMU with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
