FAIRBANKS (Dec. 30) - Peter Bullock scored a game-high 22 points, including all the key buckets down the stretch, as the UAA men's basketball team hung on for a 67-60 victory over Lake Superior State in the Glacier Classic at the Patty Center tonight.
The Seawolves (11-2) won their sixth straight on the strength of tough defense and hot three-point shooting from Mark Drake and Kemmy Burgess (14 points each). LSSU (3-7) was led by 16 points from Paul Kurtz and 14 from Scott Jamison.
UAA led throughout the game and stretched its lead as high as 13 points in the second half. But the Lakers got hot from three-point range and pulled with 59-58 with about two minutes left.
The Seawolves answered with several key plays from Bullock, who scored eight of UAA's last 12 points and shot 6-of-7 on free throws in the second half.
Bullock's 8-for-12 effort from the line made him UAA's career leader in charity attempts with 560. The senior now trails Gnad for the all-time scoring record by just 1,666-1,620. He also swatted one shot to tie Jim Hajdukovich for No. 3 on the career blocks list with 78.
UAA won despite an off-night shooting (24-58, 41.4 percent) and a 41-36 disadvantage in rebounding. Three-pointers made the difference, however, as UAA converted 7 of 13 from long range.
Drake hit 4 of 5 three-pointers to leapfrog Scott Larrabee (157, 1996-00) and Chris Hamey (158, 1995-00) for second place on the all-time three-pointers made list with 159.
The Seawolves return to Great Northwest Athletic Conference action Thursday, Jan. 8, when they host rival Alaska Fairbanks at 7:05 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
