Wolves top Seawolf women

ANCHORAGE (Dec. 6) - Kamie Jo Massey scored a game-high 20 points, but Western Oregon used a big rebounding advantage and timely shooting to earn a 64-58 Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball win over host UAA.

The Seawolves (4-2, 0-2 GNAC) held a 40-31 lead in the second half before the Wolves (2-4, 1-1) took control with a 19-2 run. Forward Shannon Talbott came off the bench to lead WOU with 19 points (7-11 FG) and 10 rebounds.

UAA, which got 14 points from forward Amber Nasby, overcame a 29-25 halftime deficit with a 15-2 spurt to open the second half. However, UAA went cold from the field and was outrebounded 36-26 on the evening.

The Seawolves came back from down 50-42 to make it 52-50 with 2:45 remaining. WOU answered with two straight jump shots that barely beat the shot clock to put the game away.

UAA is off 10 days for finals before hosting a nonconference game against Western New Mexico on Dec. 17.
