Seawolf men steal Vikings' plunder

ANCHORAGE (Dec. 6) - The inside tandem of Peter Bullock and Bob Austin combined for 48 points as the UAA men's basketball team bounced back with a 100-82 victory over previously undefeated Western Washington on Saturday.


The Seawolves (6-2, 1-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) outrebounded the Vikings 36-26, shot 28 of 31 from the free throw line and 63.5 percent from the field. WWU (5-1, 1-1) had five players score double figures, led by Grant Assink's 19 points off the bench.


Bullock scored 32 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, passing 1,500 points for his career. He now has 1,530, trailing only Hansi Gnad's 1,666. The senior forward was nearly perfect, hitting 9 of 11 from the field and 14 of 15 from the line. He now has 40 career double-doubles and has scored over 30 points six times.


Meanwhile, Austin scored 10 of his career-high 16 points in the first half as UAA extended to a 52-35 lead.


Western battled back to within single digits several times, but never got closer than eight.


The Seawolves also got 12 points apiece from guards Kemmy Burgess and Mark Drake, plus nine assists from point guard Aaron Lawrence.


UAA is off for final exams before traveling to Honolulu for the Hawaiian Style Classic, Dec. 14-18.
