ANCHORAGE (Mar. 1) - Kamie Jo Massey's 14th double-double of the season wasn't enough as the Seawolf women's basketball team lost its home finale, 77-59 to Central Washington at the Sports Center tonight.
Massey led UAA (10-14, 5-11 GNAC) with 18 points and 10 rebounds, but CWU (15-8, 10-6) had four players in double-figure scoring, led by Karissa Martin's 14 points.
UAA had another strong start, leading until midway through the first half, but the Wildcats closed with a 14-6 run to take a 41-30 lead at halftime. The Seawolves got no closer in the second half as the Wildcats, the sixth-ranked team in the West Region, bolstered their playoff hopes behind center Alayna Vincent's 13 points, seven rebounds and six blocks.
Junior center Mary Aschoff was the only other Seawolf in double-figure scoring, finishing with 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Sophomore forward Amber Nasby had a strong outing off the bench with eight points, four rebounds and a career-high three blocks.
UAA outrebounded CWU 40-36, but the Wildcats made 21 of 25 free throws, while UAA got the to line just 16 times, making 12. CWU also made six three-pointers to UAA's one.
The Seawolves close their season next week on the road with a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference games at Western Washington (Thur., Mar. 6) and Seattle University (Sat., Mar. 8). Both games tip at 6 p.m. AST.
