Seawolves win shootout with Saints

LACEY, Wash. (Feb. 8) - Peter Bullock scored 24 points and Mark Drake came off the bench to score 19 as the UAA men's basketball team won its third straight game, 92-85 at Saint Martin's tonight.


UAA (10-10, 7-4 GNAC) shot 50 percent from the field, including 52.2 percent on threes, to overcome the host team's 61.8 percent shooting. Saint Martin's (0-21, 0-11) got 24 points from Brandon Hartley.


The Seawolves won the game by getting to the free throw line 10 more times than the Saints, hitting 24 of 30. Saint Martin's made just 12 of 20 charities. UAA also had 18 assists and 12 turnovers, while the Saints struggled with 14 assists and 20 turnovers.


Bullock led UAA's parade to the free throw stripe, connecting on 7 of 8. He was 8 of 14 from the field and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to move into second place on UAA's career list with 606. The junior passed Dale Bartley (602 rebounds, 1985-88) and now trails only Hansi Gnad (1,124, 1983-87) with approximately 35 games left in his career.


Meanwhile, Drake heated up from outside, hitting 5 of 9 three-pointers, while backcourt mate Cody Gallatin nailed 3 of 6 threes and finished with 10 points. Reserve forward Shane Bannarbie was 2 of 3 from long range and finished with 12 points. The point guard combo of Gallatin and Bryson Vaughan accounted for eight assists with just three turnovers.


Combined with its 80-78 defeat of Central Washington in Ellensburg on Thursday, Saturday's win gave UAA its first-ever sweep of a Great Northwest Athletic Conference road trip.


Now alone in fourth place in the GNAC, the Seawolves return home for five of their final seven games, beginning Thursday against Western Washington at 8 p.m.
