SEATTLE (Mar. 8) - Kamie Jo Massey scored 20 points and Tanya Nizich chipped in 13 as the UAA women's basketball team ended its season with a 73-59 victory over host Seattle University at the Connolly Center on Saturday.
The Seawolves (11-15, 6-12 GNAC) also got eight points apiece from Mary Aschoff, Jen Stoddard and Mindy Mendenhall, while Seattle (9-18, 3-15) got 10 points and 10 rebounds from center Courtney Tinsley.
UAA led by for all but three minutes building its lead to as high as 50-33 with 8:34 remaining.
Defense was the key for the Seawolves as they held the Redhawks to 35.7 percent shooting, while hitting 45.8 percent themselves. UAA also forced 27 Seattle turnovers.
Massey had another outstanding all-around performance, hitting 9 of 15 shots, both of her free throws and tallying three assists, two blocks and two steals. Nizich, meanwhile, went 4 of 7 from the field, including 2 of 3 three-pointers.
The Seawolves' bench was another major difference, outscoring the Redhawks' reserves 30-17.
UAA finishes the season alone in seventh place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference after being picked ninth in the preseason coaches' poll.
