ARCATA, Calif. (Sept. 25) - A short-handed UAA volleyball team suffered its second straight heartbreaking loss, falling 29-31, 19-30, 30-25, 30-19, 15-9 to host Humboldt State at the East Gymnasium tonight.
O'Lita McWilliams led UAA (7-5, 1-3 GNAC) with 15 kills and 16 digs, while Katina Ozrelic had 13 kills and five block assists. The Lumberjacks (4-9, 2-2) got a match-high 21 kills from Jessica Murray and 15 apiece from Julia Shaw and Rachael Halverson.
The Seawolves were playing without senior middle blocker Starr Burgan, their leading percentage hitter (.301), who suffered an ankle injury in practice Wednesday.
Junior Jenny Mitchell had her best match of the season with nine kills and a .364 hitting percentage as she helped the Seawolves roll through the first two games. UAA lost Game 3 despite outhitting the Lumberjacks .321 to .209 in the frame and then dropped Games 4 and 5 with .024 and .167 hitting percentages.
The Seawolves will try to snap their 3-match losing streak when they visit Western Oregon (7-6, 2-2) in another GNAC match Saturday in Monmouth, Ore.
