Seawolves rebound at Western Oregon

MONMOUTH, Ore. (Sept. 27) - Mindy Cason slammed 18 kills and Katina Ozrelic had a career-high 16 kills to power the UAA volleyball team to a 19-30, 30-20, 30-24, 33-31 victory over host Western Oregon at the New P.E. Building tonight.

UAA (8-5, 2-3 GNAC), which snapped a 3-match losing streak, got a match-high 19 digs from senior Michelle Garvin. WOU (7-7, 2-4) was led by Samantha Krier's 15 kills and 16 digs.

The Seawolves came out slow in the first game, committing eight attack errors and allowing the Wolves to hit .340. But UAA dominated Games 2 and 3, slamming 40 kills with just eight errors.

Game 4 appeared to be another easy victory as UAA jumped out to a 24-16 advantage. However, WOU fought back to win 14 of the next 19 points to gain a shot at game point. UAA senior O'Lita McWilliams saved the day with a kill to make it 30-30 and then followed with a service ace. WOU got a kill from Kim Tower to knot the score again, but Cason then converted setter Kasey Kuelper's 60th assist of the night, and the Seawolves won the match on a Krier attack error.

Ozrelic was a force on defense as well, posting seven block assists, another career-high for the junior middle blocker. Meanwhile, Kuelper had 18 digs and reached 60 assists for the third time in her career. McWilliams notched her 10th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 14 digs.

The Seawolves return home to the Wells Fargo Sports Complex next week for matches against Northwest Nazarene (Fri., Oct. 3) and Seattle University (Sat., Oct. 4). Both contests begin at 7:05 p.m.
