Charities sink UAA men at Central

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Jan. 31) - The UAA men's basketball team put together another solid shooting effort, but the Seawolves were done in from the free throw line in a 91-82 loss to Central Washington here Saturday.


UAA (15-5, 5-4 GNAC) got 22 points from Peter Bullock and shot 51 percent from the field, but the Wildcats (5-13, 2-7) made a school-record 28 of 29 free throws, while UAA managed just 5 of 8 from the charity stripe.


CWU got a combined 43 points on 16-of-23 shooting from center Tyler Mitchell and guard Scott Freymond. Kemmy Burgess scored 16 points (4-5 3FG) and Aaron Lawrence chipped in 13 for the Seawolves, who were also hurt by 19 turnovers.


The Seawolves led 36-34 at halftime before the Wildcats outscored them 29-16 over the first eight minutes of the second half to take control. A Lawrence jumper at the 9:46 mark cut the deficit to 65-62, but UAA would get no closer.


UAA is back on the road next week for a showdown at Alaska Fairbanks as the arch-rivals jockey for position among the GNAC leaders.
