BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Oct. 2) - The UAA volleyball team ran into a red-hot opponent for the second straight night as 21st-ranked Western Washington dealt the Seawolves a 30-20, 30-13, 30-24 setback at Carver Gym on Saturday.
UAA (9-7, 3-5 GNAC) was led by nine kills from junior Carolyn DeKay, but the team managed to hit just .092 and recorded only one block. WWU (10-4, 6-1) won behind 15 kills from Meghan Evoy and 24 digs from Brianna Murray.
The Seawolves, who have lost five of six after an 8-2 start, got a team-high 15 digs from junior Diana Gordon. Freshman setter Bethan Murphy made her first start for UAA, dishing 31 assists to go with nine digs.
The win was the Vikings' 23rd consecutive at Carver Gymnasium, one short of their school record.
UAA faces another road test next Saturday when it travels to arch-rival Alaska Fairbanks for a 7 p.m. first serve.
