LACEY, Wash. (Oct. 23) - Seniors Jenny Mitchell and Mindy Lindquist both put up career-best kills numbers Saturday to help the UAA volleyball team snap a six-match losing streak with a 27-30, 30-26, 30-27, 30-24 victory over Saint Martin's here tonight.
UAA (10-11, 4-9 GNAC) got its first Great Northwest Athletic Conference road win of the season thanks as well to a combined 58 digs from Diana Gordon and Rachael Knecht. The Saints (4-16, 2-11), who were trying for their first two-match win streak of the year, got 11 kills apiece from Lauren Kreiger and Christy Hurley.
Mitchell, who hails from Everson, Wash., nailed 26 kills on .523 hitting as she played in front of several family members. Meanwhile, Lindquist pounded 17 kills and was in on three of UAA's 12 blocks.
Fellow senior Katina Ozrelic had 12 kills and eight blocks, including a career-high five solos. Freshman setter Bethan Murphy was effective at running the Seawolf offense, finishing with 59 assists and nine digs.
Gordon's 31 digs were a personal-best, while Knecht's 27 digs were the tenth time she has tallied 25 or more.
The Seawolves return home next week to host nationally ranked Western Washington (Oct. 29) and Seattle Pacific (Oct. 30) at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
