Seawolves cut down Lumberjacks in finale

ARCATA, Calif. (Nov. 13) - The senior trio of Jenny Mitchell, Katina Ozrelic and Mindy Lindquist put together a huge effort to lift the Seawolf volleyball team to a 30-22, 30-20, 27-30, 30-19 victory over Humboldt State in the season finale here Saturday.


Mitchell had a match-high 18 kills and career-best 21 digs to help the Seawolves end the season with a three-match winning streak. With the victory, UAA (13-13, 7-11 GNAC) also avoided its first losing season since 2000.


Jessica Murray had 16 kills and 15 digs to lead HSU (2-23, 1-17).


The Seawolves dominated the first, second and fourth games as Carolyn DeKay registered 17 kills, Lindquist had 11 kills and five blocks, and Ozrelic had 10 kills and five blocks. As a team, the Seawolves posted a season-best 15 blocks.


Junior Diana Gordon was her usual solid self along the back row, making a match-best 29 digs, while libero Rachael Knecht registered 23. Setter Bethan Murphy finished with 51 assists, four aces, four block assists and eight digs.
