Antelopes outgun Seawolves at Glacier

FAIRBANKS (Dec. 17) - Stephanie Beason had another outstanding offensive effort, but the UAA women's basketball team couldn't hold on to a halftime lead in an 84-69 loss to Grand Canyon in the Glacier Classic on Friday.

Beason scored a game-high 32 points for UAA (3-5), which led by one at half before succumbing to GCU's early second-half run. The Antelopes (5-6) got a balanced scoring attack as Kelly McRee and Erin Yiakos combined for 48 points on 17-of-22 shooting.

Beason, a junior guard from Norwood, Mo., hit 12 of her 18 shots and 6 of 10 from three-point land to record her second 30-plus effort of the season. It was the third time she hit six threes in a game, making her the first Seawolf ever to accomplish that feat.

Meanwhile, Long was a solid 6-of-11 from the floor to record her eighth straight double-digit scoring output. Megan Archuleta had eight points, while guard Christa Wilson chipped in with five points, five rebounds and five assists.

UAA rallied from an early 8-point deficit to take a 31-27 lead on back-to-back threes by Archuleta late in the first half. After taking a 35-34 lead into the locker room, the Seawolves fell victim to an 8-0 GCU surge to start the second half and never regained the lead.

The game stayed close until the 6-minute mark, when the 'Lopes stretched a 64-61 lead to 77-62.

UAA will take on Fairmont (W.Va.) State in its final game at the Classic on Saturday (6 p.m.).
