ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Dec. 4) - Tenecia Macon registered her first career double-double but it wasn't enough against undefeated Central Washington as the Wildcats knocked off the Seawolves 85-67 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball game here Saturday.
Macon had 16 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks in just 18 minutes for UAA (1-4, 0-2 GNAC), while Central Washington (6-0, 2-0) put three players in double-figures, led by center Laura Wright's 18 points and 11 rebounds.
UAA center Taylor Long scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, and Cassie Bro chipped in with 11 points. The Seawolves outrebounded the home team 43-41, but they were hurt by a 15-22 assist-turnover ratio, while CWU registered 23 assists and 11 turnovers.
The game was tight early, with Amber Nasby pulling the Seawolves within 25-24 on a jumper midway through the first half. CWU answered with an 8-0 run and took a 44-35 advantage into the break.
Two free throws by Long cut the Wildcats' lead to 45-39 with 17:29 to play before CWU came up with a 7-0 spurt to take a double-digit lead for good.
The Seawolves will now take a month-long break from league play, resuming their non-conference schedule with two home games against West Virginia Tech, Dec. 10-11. Both contests tip at 7:05 p.m. AST at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
